Victimology

QUESTION In the reading this week chapter 1-2 (Serial Murderers and TheirVictims), we were introduced to several profiles of serial and mass murderers.

Youare going to be selecting one case study to write about in-depth, from the perspectiveof defending the offender. You will use different theories fromvictimization to discuss and explain their actions from a Victimologist’s orCriminologist’s point of view. Look through this chapter, as well as the book(use the index in the front to quickly scan the titles of different profilesand case studies) and select one that you would like to write about. Pleasegive the title of it and why this case study intrigues you.

ANSWER I choose Ted Bundy as myfinal project. His life is full of controversy and many theories can behatched as to why he killed as he did. He was rejected his whole life. His mother, his biological father (whomay have been his grandfather), kids at school and the love of his life rejected him. Afterthis he began to kill people. My title will be “I deserved to be loved”.

ASSIGNMENT

In chapter 1 of Karmen’s “Crime Victims: AnIntroduction to Victimology” we are introduced to what victimologists do. Thereare four basic steps (p. 25-29) that he discusses that criminologists gothrough when looking at a situation:

Using these steps, and the information that you haveread in the texts to complete a thorough case study on one of the criminalcases learned about in class (Do not use any of the case study subjects fromthe previous assignments in this course).

In your case study, use the theories andideas in victimology to identify, define, and describe the problem.Measure the real dimensions of the problem(e.g., explain the perpetrator’s actions), and specify how the victims werehandled, as well as the criminal justice process (how evidence was gathered totest the hypotheses).Include theoutcome of the prosecution, the victims, and their families.

Your paper must be formatted in the following manner:

·Thepaper must be 750 words in length (roughly three pages). Only the body of thepaper counts towards the length. No information that belongs on a title page orreference page will count towards the length requirement.

·Pleasefollow APA guidelines; provide a title and reference page, use Times New Roman12 point font, and double-space your lines. You need to have five references,two of which can be your textbooks from this class; the references for thesecan be found in the course syllabus.

(So pretty much the paper must be writtenin defense of his actions or why he is justified for his actions. Henever knew his dad, so we can say he was raised with a single mother theory. Thetwo men his mom said could be his dad never wanted him (no proof they evenexisted really). It is believed the grandfather raped the mom and when she got pregnant,she was sent to a home for pregnant women. After having him she came home. Hewas raised with his mom, grandpa, grandma and aunt. The grandmother was verypassive suffered from depression. The grandfather was said to be abusive, sothat is one theory that he learned how to be abusive to women. He was ostracizedat school by his classmates so he did not have any friends, this could be anothertheory of mental health. His mom married and his stepfather adopted him. Hismom and the new husband had kids together so the blended family could beanother theory. His first love rejected him, and he began killing women wholooked like her.)

In his defense or goal is to show how hewas lacking physical touch, love, nurturing and acceptance from everyone he knew.He was taught violence against women by his grandfather and his first loverejecting his set him off. Lets also determine if he was bipolar or had multiplepersonalities because he was very smart and had a bachelor’s degree inpsychology I think (don’t quote me though)
