“One study at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Benin-City Nigeria found that Nurses with higher education demonstrated better patient outcome. The study found that every 10% increase in bachelor’s degree nurses was associated with a decrease in the likelihood of an in-patient dying within 30 days of admission by 7%” (Olaolorunpo, O., Oduyemi, R. O., Oluwatosin, M. O., & Osian, E. A. (2019)). In my experience the nurses who have a well rounded and current knowledge base as well as up to date on current evidence-based practice have at least their BSN and usually their masters. I have worked with APRNs who are truly knowledgeable and have taught me so much about nursing and research. After taking the classes for research and learning so much about evidence based practice during these courses I realize how important not only knowing the current data is but being able to research and use keep current on medical advances.
