There was an area of my academic record that I believe doesn’t reflect my abilities in academic achievement due to very challenging circumstances that I had to overcome during which my list of priorities have changed. In (year ) I have gone through the trauma of loosing two of my family members my mom (38yrs) and my brother (10yrs) in a car accident whereas my other siblings got severely injured and were hospitalized for couple of months. I was the only one from my family who haven’t witnessed that tragic car crash. Being the eldest son, I grieved while I was helping my siblings to recover physically and mentally. With four of my siblings being affected differently, I had to rapidly adjust to their needs and pour out all my energy to help them grieve the loss of our mom and brother; At the same time I did my very best to help them progress mentally, physically and academically. I have experienced a shift in my priorities in which my family and their health came first. During this rough patch I for the first time ( having a straight A academic record since grade 1) got a low GPA. Having low academic achievement triggered me to experience an identity loss in which I have learned that neither my academic achievement nor my circumstances can define who I am or limit my capabilities. Within one year , my siblings have recovered physically and were steadily progressing Mentally. Furthermore, all of them have passed their school year. I am proud of myself and my family for overcoming this challenging experience. I didn’t give up nor settle after graduation and wanted to pursue graduate education. I then traveled to the U.S and got a Masters in Finance and I thrived academically. Furthermore, I worked as a teaching assistant and as a financial analyst at the International Monetary Fund. Finally , I like to actively mentor students and encourage them to overcome their challenges in life and never give up or let any circumstances define their life experience and achievement.
