DB3: Research Questions

At this point in the term, we turn to identifying your research topic that you’ll work on for the rest of the class. What that means is that you need to pick a topic and develop a research question that will create the focus of the large research paper you’ll write for Writing Project 4.
Your topic should be inspired by the topic of the course, but it can (and should) move away from being immediately connected to Covid-19. For instance, if I was initially interested in the notion of voting during Covid-19, I might shift my research to voting practices in general or to look at the idea of voting by mail. If I want to continue on the track of my special education topic, I might decide that I’m particularly interested in how funding is allotted for special education. You can build on and significantly expand/revise what you were already working on, or you can pick an entirely different topic.
Once you have an idea for a topic for your individual research project, you will need to write a research question.

Then, complete the Developing a Research Question handout.
Finally, using your new knowledge about research questions, make a post (by Wednesday) in which you identify 1-3 questions you are interested in researching during the second half of the term. By Sunday, respond to at least two peers’ questions, noting whether the questions are specific, analyzable, and relatable. Also make any suggestions for fine-tuning the question to make it stronger.
