According to “Department Of Emergency Services And Public Protection”(2020), “The requirements for a thorough reconstruction will include all photographs from scene, autopsy and physical evidence. Notes, measurements, sketches should also be obtained. Any reconstruction can only be as good as the information provided. Reconstructing certain facts or aspects of the events without being able to reconstruct them all (due to various reasons) can provide valuable information to the investigation and future prosecution of a case. Thus, the Connecticut Forensic Science Laboratory offers numerous laboratory experts and consultants in order to assist in conducting a crime scene reconstruction” (Crime Scene Reconstruction).

There are different types of evidence reconstruction classifications, such as specific Incident Reconstruction, Specific Event Reconstruction, and Specific Physical Evidence Reconstruction. Incident reconstruction can reconstruct traffic accidents, such as the vehicle positions, speeds, and sequence of accident events. Event reconstructions can reconstruct conditions, identity, relation, and direction, such as fingerprints, shoe prints, and tire tracks. Physical evidence reconstruction can reconstruct firearm use, such as position and location of the victim, direction and sequence of shots.

Crime Scene Reconstruction is the artistic way to use scientific methods, deductive reasoning, and interrelationships between the offender and victim to gain insight to the events that surrounded the commission of the crime. It is putting the pieces together to form one big overall picture, using physical evidence, such as photographs, physical evidence, autopsy, and witness statements. It is important to prioritize the reconstruction of the scene prior to profiling the offender. A reconstructionist must make sure that they have all the facts as accurately as possible, what happened and how it happened before having a solid foundation to develop a psychological profile (Crime Scene Reconstruction, 2020).
