Students will not create their own questions and/or answer choices, we are using the exact questions for the Independent and Dependent variables listed on the Research Variable List. Please make sure your hypothesis includes the exact wording from the Dependent variable question listed on the Research Variables List.pdf.

Note: the GSS data is mostly opinion data. For example, if you select the Right to Die variable paired with the Gender variable, do not automatically assume you are working with data that shows that men want the right to die more than women want it. Keep in mind that you are working with opinion data; for this variable, the data is about the opinions of people who were asked a question “should people have the right to die,” not “do you personally want the right to die.” Most of the questions are set up similar to this. If you paired this variable with gender, your hypothesis would be on the order of “men are more likely than women to agree with the statement that people should have the right to die.”
