Topic:
Without doubt, the availability of IT systems has facilitated various changes to be experienced at the work place. As per Pearlson, Saunders, & Galletta (2016), the availability of these IT systems and its effects have facilitated the creation of new work, creating new work arrangements, presenting new managerial changes in employee supervision, evaluation, compensation and hiring. As per Jones (2016), this implies that IT and other systems have gone to the extent of affecting how the hiring process is encouraged out and also cases of shifting to knowledge-based work.
One of the notable ways that IT has affected the human resource management process is through mobile working and telecommuting. As per Long (2018), traditionally, employees were supposed to report at work as from 8AM and out of work from 5PM. However, this is not the case as employees can easily work from their home thanks to reliable and efficient IT and IT supporting systems (Pearlson, Saunders, & Galletta, 2016).
As much as there are costs associated with how IT has changed work design, the benefits of IT at the work outweigh the costs. With telecommuting, employees can work at the comfort of their homes, which helps in improving employee productivity, a key process towards improving organizational performance (Pearlson, Saunders, & Galletta, 2016).
In one of the companies that I have worked previously, the management had facilitated a more of a work life balance in which it was more flexible that allowed employees to work from their homes. As an employee, I had to avoid the hustle of commuting which gave me more time to work on the assigned task. On the part of the company, it was able to save on costs because employees can work from their home and save on costs that relate to office space.
