You must have an introduction paragraph where you introduce the narrative, its title, and the author.

Then you can talk a bit about how Native Americans were treated in America

by white people. You can talk about how Native children were forced to go to

white schools as Zitkala-Sa was. She was taken away from her own Native

American family and forced to attend a Quaker Missionary School in Indiana.

For your thesis, you should make three points. You might say that three

actions by the school forced Zitkala-Sa to lose her spirit while she was at

the school; they were forcing her to wear “white” clothes, forcing her to

have her long hair cut, and keeping her away from her family, especially her

mother, who gave her comfort.

2 nd paragraph: you would say.

The first thing that helped lead to Zitkala-Sa’s loss of spirit was the school

forcing her to take away her Native American clothing. Write about this in

the paragraph and choose a direct quote to include.

3rd paragraph: you would say.

The second thing that led to Zitkala-Sa’s loss of spirit was the school forcing

her to have her hair cut. Write about this and include a quote about her

hair being cut.

4th paragraph: you would say.

The third thing that led to Zitkala-Sa’s loss of spirit was the fact she had lost

her family and could not turn to her mother for comfort. She was all alone

in the school. Find a quote you could use that talks about her not being

able to turn to her mother for support.

5th paragraph: you would discuss everything you have covered and repeat

all three things that led to Zitkala-Sa’s loss of spirit.
